Book review : A Knight's Redemption by Catherine Kean | Heartwarming holiday read set in Middle Ages

A Knight's Redemption
Knight's Series Book 6
by Catherine Kean

( this tale is also included in the

Medieval Historical Romance Collection "Christmas Knights"

GENRE: #MedievalRomance #ChristmasNovella

My rating: ★★★★☆

A truly lovely romance set in medieval times, I honestly enjoyed this read from the very first word to the very last!

This is a classic “second chance” story and the #6th and final installment in a series focused on noble medieval knights and the women who win their hearts.
However, don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous books; you can absolutely read this one as a standalone! Even though the supporting characters were the main stars in the earlier installments, Catherine Kean does a wonderful job of briefly introducing everyone at the beginning of the story, so you’ll never feel like you're missing out on the history.

THE PLOT IN A NUTSHELL

The story unfolds across two different time planes, both set during the magical Christmas season:

  • ---> In the first part we meet our two protagonists as teenagers. We get to witness their first meeting and the heartbreaking events that take place on Christmas Day, leading to a long, painful estrangement that lasts for six years.

  • ---> In the second part, 6 years later, the dust has settled. Our heroes have grown, matured, and—most importantly—they have never forgotten each other. Their long-awaited reunion gives them the perfect opportunity to finally address the misunderstandings of their past. But it isn't all mistletoe and holiday cheer; they also have to contend with dangerous enemies of the kingdom and a tense plot involving child kidnappers that keeps the stakes high!

MY THOUGHTS

___THE CHARACTERS__

I really loved the characters, though I have to be honest: the way Holden ( our HERO) behaved as a young squire in the beginning made me quite angry!
However, seeing him transform was a joy. He is so incredibly sweet as an adult, and the playfulness and genuine tenderness with which he courts Mary ( our HEROINE) upon their reunion really touched my heart.

Mary is quite insecure, and I felt she was a little too stubborn at times when it came to hearing Holden’s side of the story.
Thankfully, during their second meeting, she manages to be more open-minded, eventually looking past her hurt to see the man Holden has truly become.

Honestly, I loved them so much that I wish this had been a full-length novel rather than a short novella—I just wasn't ready to say goodbye to them yet!

___ FINAL THOUGHTS

The story is sweet and clean; there are plenty of kisses, but no explicit sex scenes.
Even so, the emotions and the tender gestures between the protagonists are captured so beautifully that they’ll make you dream of falling in love all over again.

---> There isn't any graphic violence, either, making this a great read for younger adults as well.

I had such a wonderful time with this book that I will definitely be picking up more from this author in the future! 😊✨
